Flowers
To have hummingbirds visit your yard, you must create a garden that is a sanctuary for these magnificent little birds. There are plenty of perennials that attract hummingbirds. Among these flowers are coneflowers, salvia, butterfly bush, trumpet creeper, and cardinal flower. Planting these perennial plants is a surefire way to have hummingbirds visit your yard!
Hummingbird Feeders
The best way to keep hummingbirds is to create a food source. Once you plant the appropriate flowers to attract the hummingbirds there, you must create a constant food source for them. It is essential to have hummingbird feeders in your garden and near your house. Place the feeders near the perennial flowers.
It is essential to keep a good amount of nectar in your feeders at all times. If the food source leaves, so will these tiny birds! When making nectar, use 1 part sugar to 4 parts water until dissolved. Never add red dye, as this can harm the hummingbirds.
Once you have a following, be sure to place your hummingbird feeders in the same spot every year. These birds will come back to these spots. Additionally, they become very territorial over their food source. Feel free to place a swing or perch nearby so they can keep an eye on their food!
